Once the filter is out, empty any lint or debris and give it a good rinse. Scrub off anything that’s stuck on and dry it thoroughly. Before reattaching the filter, take a few moments to wipe down the inside of the drum with a clean cloth to remove any residue that might be clinging to the surface. After that, reattach the filter and secure it in place.

Experts recommend cleaning your washing machine’s lint filter at least once a month. If you have pets that shed a lot or if you wash heavily soiled items frequently, you may need to clean it more often. Regular cleaning keeps your machine running efficiently and helps prevent odors and bacteria from building up. You can run an empty wash cycle using hot water and two cups of white vinegar. This helps clean out the interior of the drum, remove any lingering odors, and prevent bacteria and mildew from forming. If you prefer, you can also use a washing machine cleaning tablet, which is available at most stores.
