Greggs employees were left in utter disbelief when a man walked in and placed an order for what could be the biggest bacon sandwich ever attempted—a monstrous creation packed with an astonishing 7,600 calories. Competitive eater Craig Harker took on the challenge of consuming 100 rashers of bacon in one sitting, all stuffed into an enormous bread roll that barely fit inside a pizza box.
Greggs, a beloved British bakery chain known for its classic steak bakes and variety of vegan options, serves some of the country’s most popular comfort foods. But while most people enjoy a bacon sandwich or a pastry as an occasional treat, Craig took things to an entirely different level.
At 37 years old, Craig is no stranger to extreme food challenges. As a dedicated member of the British Eating League, he constantly pushes his limits. This time, he decided to take on what may be the UK’s largest bacon sandwich. When he stepped into a Greggs location in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, and requested 100 slices of bacon in a single sandwich, the cashier was stunned and thought he was joking.
However, when they realized he was completely serious, the Greggs staff got to work assembling the gigantic meal. When it was finally presented to him, Craig had to fork over £60 for his bacon-filled masterpiece. But he wasn’t too concerned about the price—especially since it came with full bottles of ketchup and brown sauce to complement the flavor.
Known on social media as Dad Loves Food, Craig proudly showcased his massive sandwich, which stood nearly nine inches tall. He jokingly called it “Bacon Mount Everest,” telling his followers, “Look at that—it’s absolutely insane. It’s like an entire pig in a box.”
Video footage captured Craig attempting to lift the enormous sandwich, struggling under its sheer weight. He took it home since eating something of this magnitude inside the store simply wasn’t practical. Once back in his kitchen, he prepared himself for the challenge, ready to tackle the towering mountain of bacon with a bottle of Coca-Cola by his side to help wash it down.
Initially, he made decent progress, devouring layer upon layer of salty, crispy bacon. But as the challenge wore on, the sheer volume of bacon started to take its toll. After consuming 38 rashers, Craig had to call it quits. “As for 100 slices, I think it’s impossible,” he admitted.
He speculated that only elite competitive eaters—maybe someone like Max vs. Food or another seasoned British Eating League competitor—could finish the entire sandwich, but he certainly couldn’t. “I think I’ll stick to the smaller ones next time,” he said, laughing.
Rather than let the remaining bacon go to waste, Craig shared the leftovers with his friends and family. He even compared holding the massive sandwich to “holding a newborn baby.” His kids gathered around him, eager to grab a piece of what was left.
Craig, who also owns a pub, acknowledged that even his most experienced eaters would struggle with a sandwich of this scale. He had previously made headlines by stuffing 51 rashers of bacon into a single sandwich, but this attempt proved to be far more challenging.
Reflecting on his experience, Craig explained, “As part of the British Eating League, it can be difficult to find new challenges, so I have to create them myself.” He admitted that this was by far the biggest bacon sandwich he had ever attempted and that even the world’s top competitive eaters would struggle to take on something of this magnitude.
For those wondering just how many calories this colossal creation contained, here’s the breakdown:
- 100 slices of bacon – 7,600 calories
- One stottie (bread roll) – 172 calories
- Ketchup – 20 calories
Total Calories: 7,792
After the experience, Craig made one thing clear: “I never want to look at a piece of bacon again.” While his passion for food challenges remains strong, this might be one bacon sandwich he won’t be attempting again anytime soon.
